London is a very large city and is filled with attractions to see. Whether you are a history junkie, the place abounds in museums. If its pub hopping you prefer, every area has plenty. There are several touristy things to do as well, like taking a cruise on the Thames, visiting London’s eye, so on and so forth.

If you want to do everything, then time your holiday well in advance. Make a list of what really attracts you about London and the reasons why you are visiting the city in the first place. Prioritize them accordingly. Do not end up in the city and then dilly-dally over what places you might like. Even before you book your tickets, note down the number of days it might take for you to check out everything on your list. Then plan your duration accordingly. If you can afford only, say, a week’s holiday and them need to be back at work, plan a seven day sightseeing itinerary only. Do not cram too many things and then end up devoting only a little time to each and go away feeling you could not really enjoy it.

If you the history of London appeals to you, get the names of all the museums and churches. Map out their distances and club the closest ones in one day. Be sure to find out its working hours and days. Also, you are likely to use the Underground as your mode of transport. Get a Travel Card or an Oyster Card, these cards can be just swiped to be used. You will not waste time hunting for the exact change at the ticket counter or hunting around for the right amount. The Underground itself is a very busy area with several lines for different trains. Get your train information in place before venturing out. Know exactly which train is to be taken at which platform. Otherwise, you might end up wandering the stations.

But don’t be spending all your time just traveling from one venue to another. The landmarks and historical monuments of London are many, just moving from one to another would be tiring and would not give you enough time to enjoy the weather and greenery of the city. Pick a day with good climate to head out to the parks. Many of them are located near the historical buildings. You can schedule a trip to one of these then plan a picnic lunch at the parks near them.

London has a vibrant pub culture. Take a break from sightseeing and lunch or dine at one of these. It will give you a chance to try out more pubs in a short time.

What you get to see in London also depends upon the time to visit the city. If you’re a tennis fan, then drop by in September when Wimbledon happens. If your interests lie in arts and theatre, visit on June when the City of London Festival of theatre and music and the Covent Garden Festival take place. July is a month of concerts and more plays. Take a brochure from the many theatres that are there and pick the ones you have wanted to see the most.
